I started the Jubber Journal back in 2005. I was contemplating doing a deep clean on the content, and as I looked through the archives, I noticed a lot of silly, interesting, quirky posts, but hidden in all of it, there’s also some pretty decent content. I also figured this out:
1. Content Gets Outdated
- Trends change, facts evolve, links break.
- An article written 2 years ago might not reflect the latest information or best practices.
2. Improves SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
- Google favors fresh, relevant content.
- Updating a post with new keywords, headings, or statistics can improve your search rankings.
3. Increases Value to Readers
- Adding new insights, visuals, or resources keeps your audience engaged and builds trust.
- You can also fix errors, clarify points, or simplify confusing sections.
4. Re-use and Re-share
- Updating gives you a reason to reshare the post on social media or in newsletters — without creating something entirely new.
5. Stay Competitive
- If others are updating similar content and you’re not, you risk losing traffic or credibility.
✅ When to Leave It Alone
- If the post is timeless (called “evergreen content”) and still performing well, you may only need minor tweaks.
- Don’t update for the sake of updating — do it when there’s real value to be added.
All to say, the one significant change is that none of the older posts have images associated with them, despite the post making reference to images, so if you do decide to start at the beginning, and wonder why there are no images displayed from back in the day – that is part of the cleanup and attrition that has taken place.
In your life, do you have an “evergreen content” moment that has taken place, and is timeless to you?
