Are You Being Intentional With Your Life?

Posted on May 21, 2025July 8, 2025 by Brother Sjambok

A word that has been surfacing a lot lately is: Intentionality. It would be a broad stroke, if not defined correctly. For the purpose of this post, I’m going to expand a little on what intentionality means to me as a Christian. I can choose to go through life just bumbling along, and hoping for the best – or I can be intentional and set personal goals and milestones that align with a principled life in Christ.

Intentionality means living or acting with purpose and deliberate focus. It’s the opposite of going through life on autopilot. When you’re intentional, you make conscious choices that align with your values, goals, and beliefs—whether it’s in your relationships, work, habits, or faith.

In short, intentionality is doing things on purpose, not by accident.

Examples:

  • Choosing how you spend your time instead of letting the day control you
  • Building meaningful relationships rather than casual connections
  • Pursuing goals with clarity instead of drifting aimlessly

It’s about living on purpose—not just reacting, but leading your life with thought, direction, and commitment.

What does this look like for you? Choosing to spend time in prayer, reading the bible, and working on relationships that compliment your walk with the Lord are great ways to start being intentional. For sure these are key elements that can and do lead to a life that is meaningful, purpose driven, and evident to those in your circle of influence.

Sometimes we can be our worst critics, so start small with your journey on the pathway to intentionality. It could be simply listening to uplifting music. On a drive you might listen to the bible in your car. You might set aside a few minutes each day to pray.

What I have found for my own life, is being intentional with the above in focus, certainly brings peace and clarity to the challenges I face.
